Detailed information

Product detailed description

Electric lead melting pot from the American workshop Lee Precision. The melter can hold 1.8kg of lead, which it melts in 10-15 minutes depending on the thickness of the lead ingots. The forge is equipped with infinitely variable temperature control to prevent lead melting. We recommend purchasing an external thermometer to continuously check the melt temperature. Once casting is complete, simply turn off the forge and allow the lead to solidify in the forge. You can melt it by switching on the melting furnace again. While the Lee Precision Melter 220 V does not offer a bottom outlet, it is the least expensive option on the market and an exceptionally handy helper when making homemade jigs, pilkers, eggs and other fishing odds and ends.

WARNING: The furnace is not designed to melt zinc, if it is degraded in this way, the warranty will not apply. Lead and its fumes are toxic. Molten lead can cause burns. Wear appropriate protective equipment.

LEE electric pots are state-of-the-art lead casting heaters. The electric spiral placed directly around the melting tray allows fast melting of metals with low cost of energy received, which meets the current requirements.

CAUTION: Be very careful not to get any water into the molten lead. Even a small drop of liquid will explode and spray hot lead violently, which can fly several feet. Wear safety glasses whenever using. Use the furnace only in areas where adequate ventilation is provided. Keep food and beverages away from the work area. Wash your hands before eating or smoking. If the furnace is cold, lead will probably drip briefly from the outlet as it heats up. Make sure you have a catch basin under the outlet to catch these drips. Never beat on the valve rod to stop the leak.

WARNING: Lead smelting and lead casting cause birth defects, other reproductive problems, and cancer. Use protective clothing to try to reduce the risk of exposure to contamination from lead that is in the air, in dust and on the skin and is invisible. Keep children and pregnant women away from the area while the furnace is operating. Risks can be reduced but will not be completely eliminated: with strong ventilation, washing hands immediately after using products, before eating or smoking, and cleaning surfaces and floors with disposable wipes after dust has settled. Use strong ventilation.
When using the furnace, the lead level must not get below 2/3 of the container. Then there is a risk of irreparable damage to the spiral, which could not be the subject of a claim. Never leave the furnace on unless it is 2/3 full of lead. The furnace is designed for lead. Adding Zinc to the lead will cause the Zinc to be deposited on the melting furnace vessel and prevent direct heating of the lead, another consequence that can lead to spiral burning. Again, we cannot consider the claim.

SETTING UP: Place the electric furnace on a stable work table. Do not allow the fan to blow directly on the pot. Plug the power cord into a 220V outlet ( socket ) so that you cannot trip over it. Fill the pot with the required amount of lead. Do not overload the furnace with more molten metal than the weight the furnace is designed for. Set the temperature control to medium. It will take about 20-30 minutes to melt the lead at 400 degrees Celsius with 5 kg of lead. Once the lead is melted, adjust the temperature setting to the desired position. The signs are reference numbers only and do not indicate the temperature. The high setting on the scale is about 500 degrees Celsius and the low setting is about 240 degrees Celsius. The valve outlet may corrode or collect debris over time. If the valve begins to drip, turn the valve stem back and forth about 10 degrees with a flathead screwdriver. This is a sign that there is debris in the furnace or corrosion between the valve stem and seat. The lead should always be clean before putting it in the furnace. A small pea-sized piece of wax works just as well as grease to lubricate the furnace against corrosion. Be prepared for a flame of about 10 cm when the wax is thrown into the kiln. Stir the lead vigorously from time to time, scraping the sides and bottom to loosen any dirt that floats to the surface. This is then removed from the kiln with a suitable tool.

TIPS: Before storing the furnace for an extended period of time, apply WD40 silicone spray to all steel parts. Always leave 1-3 cm of lead in the furnace to harden. The lead will prevent surface corrosion of the valve.

TROUBLE ADVICE: If no lead is coming out of the drain valve, the reason is that the lead, although already melted on the surface, is still hardened in the drain area. Turn up the thermostat one to two degrees and wait 5 minutes. It could also be due to dirt in the drain. Use protective work gear, a bent paper clip held in a pair of pliers. Use the lever to lift the valve stem and carefully pierce the outlet from underneath with the paper clip.
